Saskatchewan RCMP and the Prince Albert Police Service are working to recover stolen police equipment after a break-in at a Prince Albert hotel.
Police say an RCMP officer discovered their equipment had been stolen from a locked hotel room shortly after midnight on September 2. The officer had been staying at the hotel as part of their policing duties and immediately reported the theft to Prince Albert police.
Investigators determined that four suspects, described as three males and one female, broke into the unoccupied room at a hotel on 38th Street West. Stolen items include an RCMP service pistol, ammunition magazines, a baton, pepper spray, an RCMP uniform shirt and several personal belongings.
A conducted energy device, police duty jacket, vest, body-worn camera and radio were also reported stolen, but were later recovered during a ground search conducted by Saskatchewan RCMP.
One adult male was arrested later in the morning. Police continue to search for the remaining suspects and recover the outstanding equipment.
RCMP say the officer had stored the equipment securely and that the suspects illegally broke into a secure location. The stolen firearm and other use-of-force equipment were contained in a locked box.
Police are reminding the public that it is illegal to impersonate a police officer. Anyone who is uncertain whether someone is a police officer can ask to see their badge and identification card, or contact police to verify their identity.
Anyone with information about the theft or the whereabouts of the missing equipment is asked to contact the Prince Albert Police Service at 306-953-4222 or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
