Paladin Energy has announced a significant milestone for its Patterson Lake South uranium project in northern Saskatchewan, securing a Mutual Benefits Agreement with the Birch Narrows Dene Nation (BNDN).
The agreement covers the full operational lifespan of the project—from initial development and active mining through to future decommissioning and environmental reclamation.
Located within BNDN traditional territory in Saskatchewan’s southwestern Athabasca Basin, the project represents a major high-grade uranium development in the region.
The agreement formally establishes BNDN’s consent and support for all phases of the development, establishing a structured framework for sharing economic and social opportunities generated by the project.
“We are pleased to reach this important agreement with the BNDN, and our goal is to be a good neighbour and long-term partner with their community in Saskatchewan,” said Paladin Energy Managing Director and CEO Paul Hemburrow. “We want to ensure they receive a positive benefit from the development of the project for many years to come.”
Birch Narrows Dene Nation Chief Jonathon Sylvestre emphasized that the partnership strikes a balance between economic advancement and environmental stewardship.

This deal marks the third formal Mutual Benefits Agreement Paladin has finalized for the Patterson Lake South project, following previous agreements executed with the Buffalo River Dene Nation and the Clearwater River Dene Nation in February 2025.
