The Regina Police Service continues to receive reports of scam text messages claiming recipients must appear in court for an “unpaid traffic citation”.
We would like to remind the public that these messages are fraudulent and to avoid clicking any links or providing personal information.
What to watch for:
- Messages stating you have an upcoming court date or you owe fines
- Threats of legal action, arrest or additional penalties
- A link directing you to “take action” to resolve the issue
- Requests for personal or financial information
What to do:
- Do not click the link.
- Do not provide any personal or payment information.
If you believe you have an outstanding traffic citation, you can verify by calling the Regina Traffic Safety Court.
Legitimate government agencies will not ask you to resolve legal matters through unsolicited text messages.
If you believe you are a victim or suspect someone is trying to defraud you, contact police immediately at 306-777-6500 or call 911- if it is an emergency.
