Cumberland House’s Pavel Mckenzie is heading to the pro ranks.

The 20-year-old forward has signed his first professional hockey contract with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder for the 2026–27 season.

Mckenzie spent the past three seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Moose Jaw Warriors, recording 49 goals and 100 assists for 149 points in 196 regular-season games.

He was named Moose Jaw’s Rookie of the Year in 2024 while helping lead the franchise to a WHL Championship title.

Prior to his time in the WHL, the Northern Saskatchewan native played in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) with the Yorkton Terriers, as well as minor hockey with the Tisdale Trojans U18 AAA and North East Wolfpack program.
