Three Pelican Narrows residents face a series of firearm-related offenses after local RCMP seized a loaded handgun and open alcohol at the scene of a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 135.
On August 10, 2026, at approximately 5:25 p.m., officers responded to reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway and entered a ditch near the community.
While the occupants reported no injuries, responding officers observed open alcohol and a loaded handgun inside the vehicle, leading to the immediate arrest of everyone present.
As a result of the investigation, 28-year-old Marcie Ballantyne, 28-year-old Newton Ballantyne, and 21-year-old Safira Linklater have all been charged with nine weapon-related offenses. The generalized charges include unsafe storage and careless use of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing a firearm in a motor vehicle, and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.
In addition to the joint weapons charges, Marcie Ballantyne faces further charges including impaired operation and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, along with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. She was also executed on an outstanding warrant from Sandy Bay RCMP for failing to attend court.
Marcie Ballantyne is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on August 13, 2026, while Newton Ballantyne and Safira Linklater are slated to make their first court appearance in Pelican Narrows on September 21, 2026.
Pelican Narrows RCMP state that the investigation remains ongoing.
