The SOAR Indigenous Entrepreneurship Competition is expanding across Saskatchewan through a new partnership between SK Startup Institute and the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, providing more Indigenous entrepreneurs with access to mentorship, business development and funding opportunities.
The annual competition, delivered by SREDA’s SK Startup Institute, includes business development workshops, mentorship and a pitch competition.
Organizers say the new partnership will broaden the program’s reach beyond Saskatoon and create opportunities for Indigenous entrepreneurs across the province.
“We’re incredibly proud of the impact SOAR has had in supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs, and we’re excited to expand its impact to a provincial level through our entrepreneurship program, SK Startup Institute, and in partnership with SIIT,” said SREDA CEO Erin Lawson. “This new partnership allows us to combine our strengths, expand our reach, and create more opportunities for Indigenous business owners to access the training, mentorship, connections, and visibility they need to succeed.”
The expansion coincides with SIIT’s 50th anniversary. With support from the Greg Yuel Fellowship, this year’s prize fund has increased to $50,000, allowing organizers to invest more in Indigenous-owned businesses.
“At SIIT, we know that Indigenous entrepreneurs are creating innovative solutions, generating economic opportunities, and strengthening communities throughout Saskatchewan,” said SIIT President and CEO Riel Bellegarde. “We’re proud to partner with SREDA and SK Startup Institute to expand the reach of SOAR and create greater access to mentorship, business development supports, and growth opportunities for Indigenous entrepreneurs across the province.”
Since the competition launched in 2022, SOAR has awarded more than $120,000 to Indigenous entrepreneurs.
Applications for the 2026 SOAR Indigenous Entrepreneurship Competition open July 20, with the Pitch Finale scheduled for October 21.
