A 24-year-old man has been charged following a fatal single-vehicle rollover on Shoal Lake Cree Nation.

Carrot River RCMP say officers, firefighters and EMS responded to the crash at approximately 7 a.m. on June 5 after receiving a report of a rollover in the community.

A 29-year-old male passenger from Shoal Lake Cree Nation was declared deceased at the scene. RCMP say his family has been notified.

One other passenger and the driver were assessed by EMS. Following an investigation, police arrested the driver at the scene.

Jeremiah Merasty, 24, of Shoal Lake Cree Nation, is charged with impaired operation of a conveyance causing death, impaired operation of a conveyance, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

Police say Merasty was also issued multiple traffic tickets in connection with the incident.

He is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on June 8.
