Students in Pinehouse will soon be able to earn a Bachelor of Education degree without leaving their home community.
The Northern Lights School Division and the University of Saskatchewan have announced the Pinehouse Teacher Education Program, which will run from September 2026 through August 2030.
The program will offer a full Bachelor of Education degree with a specialization in Indigenous Studies and Indigenous Languages.
Students will take courses in Indigenous perspectives on Canadian history, Cree Grammar and Literacy, Indigenous Ways of Knowing, and Teaching for Reconciliation in the K-12 curriculum.
Northern Lights School Division says the initiative supports its commitment to the Indigenization of education in northern Saskatchewan.
Officials say the program will help develop future educators who are confident teaching Indigenous culture, language, and history while strengthening local capacity in northern schools.
