Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation leadership will host a community sharing circle and open house in Pelican Narrows this Thursday following what leaders describe as a serious public safety crisis.

The gathering comes after several recent violent incidents in the community, including the homicide investigation into the death of 26-year-old Jaden Custer and growing concerns over firearm-related violence and community safety.

In recent days, PBCN leadership announced temporary security checkpoints and ATV restrictions as precautionary measures while RCMP continue investigating recent incidents.

PBCN says the sharing circle will allow residents to hear official updates, ask questions and access support services during what leadership calls a difficult time for the community.

Chief Peter Beatty, Vice Chief Justin Halcrow, councillors, RCMP, health and mental health providers, Elders and Knowledge Keepers are expected to participate.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 28th at 1 p.m. at Wapawikoscikan High School in Pelican Narrows.
