“We help built platform either through artist shows, artist talks, member shops where they can show off all their work, or other opportunities like the upcoming Sâkêwêwak stage at the Cathedral Village Arts Festival,” said Bill Stevenson the Executive Director of Sâkêwêwak.
This is the first time they have been able to offer a stage at the Cathedral Village Arts Festival.
“I think it’s a great opportunity and a great partnership between us for this, because it brings in a massive crowd of people and it exposes them to the power and dignity of Indigenous musicians,” said Stevenson.
“They don’t just see us as powwow dancers or powwow singers … we also go beyond that so much with the country, with the rock, with the rap,” said Stevenson. “We’re infiltrated in every style of music, and I think this gives a great opportunity for the crowd in general, to understand we are so much more than whatever box they might want to put us in.”
Sâkêwêwak First Nations Artists’ Collective has been supporting Indigenous artists in the Regina area for over two decades by providing artists a chance to create, grow and reach audiences.
“This is our 30th year, we started in June 1996,” said Stevenson.

Steveson wants to invite everybody to attend this free event on Saturday night for music and dance at the Sâkêwêwak Stage in Holy Rosary Park starting at 4 p.m.
“It’s a great opportunity to expose the culture and get to know us,” said Stevenson.
