The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed May 17 to 23 as Treaties Recognition Week, emphasizing the importance of treaties in shaping relationships across the province.

Treaties are foundational agreements between the Crown and First Nations that define rights, responsibilities, and partnerships.

“Treaties are our shared history and remain important to the relationships we continue to build today,” said Minister Responsible for First Nations, Métis and Northern Affairs Eric Schmalz.

This year also marks 150 years since the signing of Treaty 6, with Treaty 4 reaching the same milestone in 2024.

The province says the commemorations offer an opportunity to learn more about treaty history and ongoing commitments.
