Flooding continues to disrupt travel across northeastern Saskatchewan, with a section of Highway 791 affected and multiple rural roads closed due to hazardous conditions.
According to the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, water is on and over the road on Highway 791 in both directions about 11.4 kilometres east of Northside. Motorists are advised to be prepared to stop and reduce speed while travelling through the area.
The Highway Hotline is urging drivers to use caution and avoid water-covered roadways, as widespread flooding continues to impact the region.
In a public safety notice issued May 2, the Rural Municipality of Paddockwood warned of serious, often unseen infrastructure risks caused by high water levels. These include undermined culverts, structural voids beneath road surfaces and the potential for sudden road collapse.
The municipality said crews are working to identify and mark hazards, but some risks may not yet be visible or clearly marked. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes and report localized flooding or damage to the municipal office or their division councillor.
Several roads within the municipality have been closed due to flooding, including:
- Township (TWP) Road 520 (Hanson Hill) at Begin Pasture, east of the Paddockwood grid;
- Montreal Trail Baseline (TWP 530) to the Paddockwood Highway;
- Three miles south of 791 and north of TWP 520;
- TWP 520 east of Highway 120 to the power substation;
- TWP 520 west of the Paddockwood grid, west of the bridge;
- TWP 2244 and Grid 791;
- TWP 2240 south of Grid 791;
- TWP 2260 north of Baseline Grid (TWP 530);
- Range Road 530 at intersections with TWP 2244 and 2245;
- TWP 520 one mile east of Weirdale grid;
