The final person convicted in the killing of Megan Gallagher has been sentenced.

According to reports, Roderick Sutherland was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison in a Saskatoon courtroom Wednesday morning for manslaughter and forcible confinement.

With credit for time spent, Sutherland will spend about five years behind bars.

For the time being, Sutherland’s sentence should be the last in an over 5-year court process in Gallagher’s case.

Court had heard Gallagher was killed in September 2020 inside Sutherland’s garage and her remains would be found two years later in the South Saskatchewan River near St. Louis.

Nine people were originally charged in the case, but charges against two were stayed.

The convictions in her killing would include second-degree murder, manslaughter, forcible confinement and offering an indignity to human remains.
