The Prince Albert Grand Council is demanding answers after an Indigenous man was left outside Victoria Hospital in the extreme cold.
Videos have circulated on social media this week showing security removing the man from the hospital and leaving him in freezing temperatures.
PAGC Grand Chief Brian Hardlotte says the circumstances in the videos are “deeply troubling” and should never occur in health care settings.
“This should not happen in a hospital,” said Grand Chief Hardlotte. “When someone seeks medical care, their safety must come first. That responsibility does not disappear because a situation is difficult or because security becomes involved.”
Hardlotte says the incident needs closer scrutiny.
The Grand Chief and other PAGC leaders say they plan to address the situation directly with the Saskatchewan Health Authority later this week.
“Our communities expect hospitals to be places of care and safety,” said Grand Chief Hardlotte. “That trust depends on clear rules, clear accountability and a system that puts people first.”
The SHA has said they are looking into the incident.
