The Metis Nation-Saskatchewan held its fall assembly in Saskatoon on the weekend.
The MNLA is used to enact legislation and resolutions governing the affairs of the Metis in Saskatchewan.
The meeting was held following a report by the accounting firm M-N-P that found the Metis are driving social and economic growth across the province.
The report was discussed at the assembly and says every dollar invested by the Metis Nation generates two dollars in Saskatchewan’s economic output.
The MNLA also saw the passing of a resolution to amend the MN-S Constitution to begin the process of creating a system for dispute resolution.
The resolution says any proposed change to the MN-S Constitution will require a vote of no less than 75% of the attending delegates.
According to a media release on the resolution, all proposed changes to the constitution must be ratified by a General Assembly.
The MN-S says a General Assembly will be called in 2026.
A new language grant was also made available through the Metis Nation Saskatchewan to help revitalize Indigenous languages.
The MN-S announced the Local Language Grant.
The grant will see $4 million distributed to Metis locals across the province for language revitalization.
The hope is that the grant will help guide language revitalization through a grassroots and community driven approach.
