Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) has arrested a wanted man after locating him in a remote area of northwest Manitoba.

WEST began efforts in October to find the 31-year-old man, who was wanted by Southend RCMP on charges that include sexual interference.

Police are withholding his name to protect the privacy of the victim, who is a youth.

Investigators determined the man had been evading arrest in Lac Brochet, a remote northern community accessible only by air or seasonal roads.

On November 15, WEST officers, along with RCMP Police Dog Services and members of Manitoba RCMP’s Thompson detachment, travelled to the community.

As officers approached a residence the man was known to visit, he fled on a quad. Police tracked his path across a frozen lake and located him in a nearby forested area, arresting him without incident.

A remotely piloted aircraft system was used to support the operation.

The man was transported back to Saskatchewan and appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on November 17.

Saskatchewan RCMP Air Services also assisted with the investigation.
