A routine seatbelt traffic stop has led to drug trafficking and weapons charges near Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan.

On November 1, 2025, a Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) officer stopped a vehicle on Highway 55 east of Meadow Lake after noticing a passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.

During the stop, the officer detained the three occupants for a drug investigation. A search revealed 54 grams of suspected cocaine, along with drug paraphernalia, a scale, three cellphones, baggies, and a metal collapsible baton.

As a result, three people were arrested and charged:

John Duchak, 40, of McCreary, Manitoba — charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Jason Sawitsky, 34, of Witchekan Lake First Nation — charged with multiple offences, including possession of a weapon contrary to order, failure to comply with an undertaking, identification fraud, and obstruction.

Sharleen Scott, 44, also of Witchekan Lake First Nation — charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police believe the cocaine was destined for the Witchekan Lake area.

All three accused are scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on January 5, 2026.

The Meadow Lake RCMP assisted CTSS officers at the scene.
