The Government of Saskatchewan has announced the plan to house displaced residents of Denare Beach during the winter months.
Several people in the north east community lost homes to this summer’s wildfire.
The government says 35 temporary modular homes will be placed in Creighton and Denare Beach to support displaced individuals.
The province hopes these units will give residents a place to stay near home while the recovery efforts unfold.
The plan was done in partnership between the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and local community leaders.
The plan was unveiled to community members last week.
“Our government and the Recovery Task Team are supporting Denare Beach and Creighton by working together with their leaders to meet the needs of displaced residents as we head into the winter months,” Corrections, Policing and Public Safety Minister Tim McLeod, K.C. said. “The recent information session allowed residents of both communities to learn about the temporary housing plan.”
“Working together to assist residents in returning to their permanent homes remains a top priority,” Denare Beach Mayor Carl Lentowicz said. “We appreciate all of the support from Creighton and the Recovery Task Team.”
The new modular homes will begin accepting residents in October.
