The Northern Village of Denare Beach is in recovery after the 2025 wildfire destroyed over 225 homes and outbuildings.
The community is now calling for the residents who are from the Northern Village of Denare Beach to complete a needs assessment form to help residents before winter sets in.
“We developed a needs assessment through the agencies that are assisting us, like Colliers and SPSA, to address the residents to see if we’re missing anything that people would need, such as their mental health, public health, help with medications, or things that they might have lost in the fire that they don’t know how to retrieve,” said Lois Moberly, recovery coordinator for the wildfire project.
“We also have done a housing needs assessment included in that most people have found places to stay for the summer months, but we know winter is coming, and we wanted to make sure that people would have a warm place over their heads for their winter. We’ve asked people to identify if it’s a single person, a couple, or a family that would be requiring some housing. We anticipate we would need housing available at least by October 1st, if not sooner. So, there is another committee that is working on that with some local agencies. We’ve asked if Creighton or Denare Beach would be their first option.”
Deadline to have Needs Assessment Completed
The deadline to have the needs assessments completed and dropped off at the Village Office by August 21st by 4:30pm.
You can access the forms by visiting www.denarebeach.net/; just click on the EMO tab.
Online forms can be found on their community website, or you can pick up a physical form at one of these locations: the Village Office, the Post Office, the Resiliency Centre, and New Horizons.
The Wolf fire started around May 18 to 20, 2025, due to a lightning strike across the Sturgeon River, which is the river that comes into Beaver Lake or Denare Beach from the north.
They were evacuated from the Village of Denare Beach on May 28th due to the possible loss of highways out of Creighton and Flin Flon, which are Highway 106 on the Saskatchewan side and Highway 10 on the Manitoba side.
On June 2, the fire ravaged our neighbourhood, destroying more than 225 homes. It was catastrophic because it had to travel almost 25 miles across lakes and islands to get to us.
The community were not granted to return home until June 25, 2025.
Currently, three-quarters of the community is still without SaskTel phone and internet service, which SaskTel has been working tirelessly to restore.
In an effort to help prepare resources, the Northern Village of Denare Beach wants to hear from community members about what their needs are, and if you are needing temporary housing, complete the Housing Needs Assessment form.
