The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency held a media briefing in Prince Albert on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say 56 active wildfires with a total of 406 wildfires to date this season.

According to officials, most fires have not seen much movement in the past few days.

However, officials do say the northern Village of Pinehouse is preparing for a possible full evacuation due to a wildfire near that community.

Pinehouse is currently on a priority evacuation order, however, the SPSA says the Muskeg Fire is burning closer to the community.

Residents are encouraged to be prepared for any possible outcome.

The news in Pinehouse comes as many northern residents begin to return home on Wednesday.

Residents from Beauval and priority residents from Montreal Lake Cree Nation are returning home.

Meanwhile, military personnel have arrived in the north.

According to military leaders, soldiers will focus on less hot fires while type 1 firefighters can focus on particular fires of concern.

Leaders say the military has felt incredibly welcomed by the north and they say soldiers are looking forward to helping the people of northern Saskatchewan.
