Update: Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigating sudden death

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes has determined the death of 25-year-old Juanita Wahpistikwan from Big Island Lake Cree Nation to be a homicide.

Saskatchewan RCMP continue to investigate.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is investigating a sudden death in the RM of Beaver River, SK.

Officers say local firefighters in the RM of Beaver River found the body when they responded to a report of a structure fire on a rural property Friday, July 11, 2025.

When the fire department arrived, they located a deceased adult female.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding her death and Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of the investigation, with assistance from the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

They have identified the deceased as 25-year-old Juanita Wahpistikwan from Big Island Lake Cree Nation.

Investigators are identifying Juanita with the hopes that they can speak with anyone who had contact with her on July 10 and 11.
