An update was sent by the RCMP May 26, 2025, stating that an arrest has been made in the homicide that took place on Friday May 23, 2025.
23-year-old Karrena Young from Shoal Lake Cree Nation has been charged with one count manslaughter.
She is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court May 26, 2025 via video.
Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes continue to investigate.
RCMP are investigating the death of a child on Shoal Lake Cree Nation as a homicide.
Police say Carrot River RCMP officers were called to a home Friday night where the child was found unresponsive.
According to the RCMP, life saving measures were performed, however, the child was declared deceased by EMS at the scene.
A suspect was identified and arrested.
Police say the victim and the suspect were known to each other.
No other information was provided, but authorities say updates will be provided.
