Wall Fires Back At Calvert Over Coming By-Election

The premier is taking issue with comments made by NDP Leader Lorne Calvert the other day about the upcoming by-election in Cumberland.

Calvert said he found it interesting that the Saskatchewan Party was telling voters it was important to vote someone in on the government side of the legislature.

Calvert added that when his party was in power, it represented every constituency equally, regardless of the MLA’s party affiliation.

But Premier Brad Wall says that isn’t consistent with messages the NDP has sent prior to previous votes.

Wall says Calvert’s party also emphasized the advantages of an MLA with the governing party, but in an “almost threatening” manner.

Wall says his party still believes it would be best for Cumberland to be represented by someone on the government side of the legislature — but he says voters in the riding will still be looked after even if it doesn’t happen.

The vote takes place on June 25th.
