Several Outcomes Possible In Annexation Dispute

The director of Northern Municipal Services says he’s not aware of any proposed extensions of municipal boundaries like the one being deliberated in La Ronge being turned down.
However, Randy Braaten says that doesn’t mean the minister responsible can’t make changes to the current proposal.
La Ronge town council is applying to annex the airport property, a resort area and some other Crown land.
Mayor Joe Hordyski admits a number of Eagle Point residents are not in favour of the plan.
Braaten says their opposition could influence how the government deals with the town’s application.
He says the Minister of Municipal Affairs gets the final call — and may approve an amended plan.
Braaten adds the minister will have to weigh the town’s rationale for wanting to annex the area in question with the concerns of local residents.
Town council recently agreed to a request by Eagle Point residents to extend a public feedback period by 120 days.
