Wanuskewin Project On Hold Due To Lack Of Funds

The board at Wanuskewin Heritage Park is hoping construction will still be completed on a new expansion project, even though the park is short funding.
Yesterday, the board’s chair, Jack Hillson, announced that money they thought was in place was not.
Because the park ran out of money, Graham Construction workers left the job site.
The park owes the company $1.3 million for work that’s been completed — and there is about $1.2 million of work left to be done.
Hillson says, over the next 60 days, the board will be in discussions with the provincial and federal governments — both of whom he says want the construction to go ahead.
Hillson hopes Graham Construction will then be able to go back to work.
He says the project has also been scaled down at the recommendation of a museum consultant from Ottawa.
This problem comes on the heels of controversy a few months ago with former CEO Sheila Gamble.
Hillson says if the board is directed to step down over this latest controversy, it will do so.
