Former Chief Added To Board Of Mining Firm

The Fond du Lac First Nation has a seat on the board of CanaAlaska Uranium Ltd.

Former Fond du Lac band chief Victor Fern was appointed to the board this past Tuesday.

Fern works at the Cameco uranium mine in Rabbit Lake, but he doesn’t see his appointment to the CanaAlaska board as a conflict of interest — even though both companies are in the uranium business.

Fern sees this appointment as a chance to help First Nations people from his region understand how the company works.

He says it also presents an opportunity for non-First Nations people to understand Aboriginal concerns and traditions.
