The provincial government says Aboriginal literacy will be Saskatchewan’s focus at an upcoming national forum.
About 3,500 people at 10 sites across the country — representing all the provinces and territories — will be linked together using interactive technology.
According to a news release, the Saskatchewan government says it will be looking to find “ways to eliminate the achievement gap between First Nations and Metis and non-Aboriginal learners”.
The province says it will do that by focusing on Aboriginal literacy initiatives, best practices among Aboriginal people, and First Nations, Metis and Inuit success stories from across Canada.
Darren McKee with the Ministry of Education says First Nations people will have a voice at the event.
The forum will run from April 13th to 15th.
Award-winning singer Susan Aglukark will be the keynote speaker.
