FSIN Chief Meets With First Nations Minister

FSIN Chief Lawrence Joseph says he is optimistic after his first meeting today with First Nations and Metis Relations Minister June Draude.
Joseph says the two met to discuss what matters they see as important — including the duty to consult issue, making sure there are the right people working in the department, and promises made by the last government.
He says Draude assured him that any signed agreements with the previous NDP government will be honoured by the new government.
Joseph admits several chiefs had expressed concern those deals would not be adhered to by the Saskatchewan Party government.
Joseph wants to meet with Premier Brad Wall next, a meeting he notes is stipulated in the FSIN’s protocol agreement with the province.
