Metis Nation – Saskatchewan has a few obstacles ahead of it.
MNS President Robert Doucette is optimistic about the organization’s future, but admits he and fellow members of the Provincial Metis Council have some work to do.
Doucette says there are suppliers that won’t work with the MNS because of debts accumulated under the previous leadership.
He notes the MNS office isn’t completely set up, and says it is “extremely hard to do business” with only two phones lines and no e-mail service.
Communication policy was an issue at brought up at yesterday’s PMC meeting in Saskatoon.
Northern Region 2 Area Director Marlene Hansen got into a heated debate with Doucette, saying she didn’t feel supported or respected by the executive.
At one point, she left the meeting.
She later downplayed the outburst, insisting she feels like a part of the group.
Hansen and Doucette agree the council needs to work on communication.
Doucette says it will take time for everyone to understand their roles and responsibilities, as well as develop a communications strategy.
