A new class will be offered next semester at the University of Regina.
The course will focus on missing and murdered Indigenous women in Saskatchewan, across Canada and around the world.
Brenda Anderson teaches at Luther College at the University of Regina.
She is working on designing the class, as well as a conference that will take place next summer focusing on the same issues.
Anderson says the course will target students taking a variety of disciplines — including human justice, social work, journalism, and police studies.
Students will hear first-hand accounts from people whose family members have gone missing.
Anderson says the purpose isn’t to demoralize people, but to encourage them to become agents of change.
Bridget Keating has been working on setting up the course with Anderson.
Keating says she talks about this issue with her seven-year-old son — noting he was the same age as Tamra Keepness when she disappeared and he knew about that.
The course will be offered this coming January.
