A new reading initiative is being offered to northern Saskatchewan mothers and their babies.
Dr. James Irvine, the chief medical health officer for the North, says the measure is aimed at promoting early childhood literacy.
Irvine says there are many benefits to introducing babies and toddlers to literature.
For example, Irvine says they often connect books to the love of their parents, which can then inspire them to continue reading as they get older.
Irvine says books for kids as young as six months will soon be available at northern health centres.
