Calvert Receives Backing From PBCN Chief

NDP leader Lorne Calvert got a vote of confidence yesterday from the chief of one of the province’s largest bands.

Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Chief Ron Michel publicly expressed his support for Calvert and the NDP during Calvert’s campaign stop in La Ronge yesterday.

Just last week, Chief Harry Cook of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band announced his support for Saskatchewan Party leader Elwin Hermanson during Hermanson’s visit to La Ronge.

Calvert says he’s not concerned by Cook’s comments, and is confident he has the backing of the vast majority of Saskatchewan’s chiefs.

Shortly after Cook’s public endorsement of the Saskatchewan Party, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band issued a press release stating that Cook was offering his own personal views, and was not speaking on behalf of the band.
