Many sports leagues across the province continue to navigate the COVID-19 situation.

The Northern Saskatchewan High School Football League is planning on having a season in the fall.

“Like all other sports in high schools in Saskatchewan, the plan is to proceed until such notice that there’s going to be some changes, that’s not the best answer, but that’s the answer right now,” said Mark Williment, who is the superintendent of education for the Northern Lights School Division.

“Every sport is planning to start as per the schedule, but there may be some changes toward the end of summer here as we get closer to the football season and the season for other sports, so it’s up in the air.”

Williment also says if the season goes ahead, there might be several changes.

“There could be restrictions on the number of fans at a game, the number of kids that are on the sideline, restrictions on 50/50 or food being sold, things like that,” said Williment. “Even on the field, there might be some adaptations, but we’ll wait and see as we get closer to the school year starting.”

Last year, the Northern Saskatchewan Football League started its campaign during the first week of September.
