Lac La Ronge Indian Band voters will not be going to the polls on Monday after all.

The band’s election tribunal made the decision to postpone the vote Wednesday due to ongoing concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic.

An advance poll had already been cancelled.

The information was sent out in a press release signed by Chief Electoral Officer Milton Burns.

There is no mention of when a new election will be held or who will now govern the First Nation in the meantime.

The LLRIB Election Act was amended in 2019 but appears to have no written regulations as to what will happen should an election have to be suspended for any reason as is the case in this situation.
