The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is urging the Quebec government to drop its constitutional challenge of the new federal Indigenous child welfare legislation.
The legislation is set to take effect Jan. 1.
Bill C-92 seeks to give First Nations more control over matters concerning Indigenous children in care.
In a news release, FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron said the organization is strongly opposed to the constitutional challenge.
He also said it would be a mistake for other provincial governments to follow Quebec’s lead.
