UPDATE: November 1, 2019

The Regina Police Service, working in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, can now confirm that the deceased person located northeast of Regina on October 26, 2019, is 22 year-old Jenaya Mary WAPEMOOSE.  Confirmation of identity was completed this week with the help of the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service.

Regina Police said it has charged two people in the six month old disappearance of Jenaya Wapemoose.

The 22-year-old from the Cowessess First Nation was reported missing May 7, by family, but last in communication in April.

Regina Police deemed the incident as a homicide case.

Police said in a press release that human remains were discovered in an area in northeast Regina Saturday, but that the identity has yet to be confirmed.

Authorities state that Wapemoose’s family has been made aware of the development.

23-year-old Eric Kakakaway is charged with second degree murder and 30-year-old Jeannette Kakakaway is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

The arrests were made Friday and Saturday.

Both appeared in provincial court today.
