Results are in from the Prince Albert Grand Council’s northern vice-chief election.

Incumbent Don Deranger has been re-elected to a new three-year term.

He defeated his only challenger, Black Lake’s Donald Sayasie, by a vote count of 129 to 72.

Deranger says he is honoured by the support and grateful delegates didn’t hold the fact he is unable to speak the Denesuline language against him.

Deranger says housing is the most pressing priority facing Far North communities right now. He hopes work can begin soon on an action plan.

The PAGC is made up of 12 bands.

Deranger’s portfolio involves overseeing issues that pertain to the PAGC’s three Dene bands in the Athabasca region.
