Inquest Probes RCMP Fatal Shooting In La Ronge

La Ronge Provincial Court is the setting for an inquest today examining the death of a northern man at the hands of the RCMP.

38-year-old Shawn Martinot died during an armed standoff with police on August 30th, 2004.

It was shortly before then that he walked through the lobby of a local hotel with a rifle, and then staged a 17-hour standoff with local officers.

He ultimately was shot after officers say he approached them brandishing a rifle.

The hearing is open to the public.
