Fishers’ Nets Seized By Conservation Officers

Fishers in the Buffalo Narrows area are up in arms following the seizure of some nets by conservation officers.

Local fishing co-op president Ken Larsen says seven fishers on Big Peter Pond Lake were singled out this past weekend, and he can’t understand why.

Larsen says fishers were allowed to catch fish for two days, but it had to be wrapped up Friday night.

Some nets weren’t pulled until Saturday, and that’s when the department intervened.

But Larsen says everyone knows those nets couldn’t take any more fish, because of the amount of fish that was available.

Larsen adds fishers could have stayed out after Friday night’s deadline to pull out the nets, but he says that would have been illegal.

Larsen also wonders why officers apprehended the seven fishers they did, when 70 others did the same thing.
