Minister’s Comments Worry Athabasca Official

Some recent statements by Saskatchewan’s new highways minister are disconcerting, according to a proponent of the Athabasca all-weather road project.
Glen Strong says Eldon Lautermilch’s suggestion that industry should help pay for major projects like the Far North road proposal have already been tried, and didn’t get anywhere.
Strong says uranium companies have stated in the past they will not pay for roads above Points North, because there aren’t any established mines there.
Strong says his group had been hoping to see a clear plan of action by the government this month about how it intended to finance its portion of the road cost.
He worries that may be delayed as Lautermilch attempts to get up to speed on the highways portfolio.
