The Sierra Club of Canada is welcoming Ottawa’s decision to help pay for the clean-up of abandoned uranium mines in Saskatchewan’s Far North.
However, a policy advisor with the group says he’s angry the mining industry isn’t doing more to help square up the bill.
John Bennett says it was big mining companies that created the environmental mess in the first place, and argues taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for their mistakes.
Bennett says this episode is proof that nuclear energy is not nearly as inexpensive or efficient as adverstised.
