There will likely be by-elections for the position of chief and one council member on the George Gordon First Nation northeast of Regina.

The election was held more than a year ago, but has been in and out of court for months.

Last month, the Court of Appeal upheld a lower court ruling, calling for a new election for chief over 17 disputed ballots that could have affected the outcome.

However, the Court of Appeal ruled the council election results would stand. Since then, Band Councilor Glen Pratt has resigned, creating a vacancy on council.

The band council will meet, likely this week, to vote on the resolutions and likely set a date for the by-elections.
