Strength and resilience of Indigenous women in Saskatchewan is the provincial theme for International Women’s Day this year.

Status of Women Minister, Tina Beaudry-Mellor, says these women are helping to foster a new generation of young Indigenous female leaders by being role models.

Among those being recognized are: Shauneen Pete, a professor at the University of Regina, Claire Belanger-Parker and Shannon Loutitt, co-founders of the International Indigenous Speakers Bureau, Devon Fiddler, founder of SheNative, a handbag and accessory company and Shana Pasapa, a mixed martial artist and founder of power of women, a self-defense program.

Also today, the All Nations Hope Network is hosting a four-day winter camp in Regina, focusing on health and social issues impacting Indigenous women.

The camp begins each day at 11:00 am with a pipe ceremony, followed by a women’s sweat lodge and a feast.

The sweat is being held at the All Rise Project, a non-profit Indigenous organization aimed at providing family support.
