Four new graduates from northern Saskatchewan have completed the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program from Northlands College and the University of Saskatchewan.
The program allows northern Saskatchewan residents to start and complete a four-year Nursing degree in La Ronge and Ile a la Crosse.
On Friday, the college and university celebrated this year’s graduates: Geralyn Clarke, Kinnosao, Jeanne Kusch, Buffalo Narrows, Janet McKenzie, Stanley Mission, and Martin Roy, Beauval.
Northlands College began hosting the UofS BSN program in 2011 and the first group of 10 students graduated from the program last year.
“We are very proud of our second cohort of northern degree nursing graduates. As students interest remains strong we look forward to celebrating our new nursing grads for years to come,” said Northlands College President and CEO Toby Greschner in a media release.
Of the 14 students who have graduated from the program so far 79% are Aboriginal and 93% are female.
There are currently 21 students in the program in La Ronge and 8 in Ile a la Crosse.
