Next week, Thomas Sierzycki will go back to his old job as mayor of La Ronge after losing a hard fought campaign as the Sask party candidate for Cumberland.

The NDP’s Doyle Vermette was easily reelected.

Sierzycki says he is proud of the way it went, and he respects the outcome.

He says he is a little bruised and tired, but winning elections is not the most important thing in his life.

“Politics is just a fragment of life and the important things in it,” he said. “When you are 27 years old it may seem like it’s pretty important. But this morning my little guy gave me a smile when he woke up and got us up after four hours of sleep, but that’s ok because you realize pretty quick there are more important things than elections.”

Sierzycki says he will spend some time talking to his wife, Jodi, about his political future.

At this point he is not ready to say if he will be seeking reelection as La Ronge mayor in this fall’s civic election.

“You know at this time there is a lot of feelings and a lot of emotions about everything in our lives,  so we are going to take some time,” he said. “We have some good things to finish up over the next six months. And hopefully, whether I run or not, leave things in a good position for whoever may take over.”

Sierzycki was first elected to La Ronge council when he was just 18. He has served as mayor since 2009, when he was 21.
