The mayor of La Loche says she is disappointed in the evacuation process so far because her community has been left without health services.

Mayor Georgina Jolibois says nearly 1700 people have been evacuated from the area, however, there is no health services available for those who stayed behind to offer help.

“We have no doctor and no nurse, so in the meantime we have an order in place and we have no medical care we can rely on,” said Jolibois.

The mayor says she was of the understanding that there would be some health services provided following the evacuation.

Now she says if there is a medical emergency they will be on their own.

Jolibois says the health region should have a better back-up plan for these types of situations.

Nearly 1700 people have been evacuated from the La Loche area since the mandatory evacuation began.
