The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is objecting to how a new provincial park has been created.

Great Blue Heron Park is located in the Anglin and Emma lake area and expected to begin operating this summer.

Chief Tammy Cook-Searson says her people are concerned about potential losses to traditional land and access to ceremonial sites such as burial grounds.

She says so far the government hasn’t given them the answers they need:

“and we did send in our letter of opposition and at the end of the day our concerns and our issues that we raised have been ignored and our people’s concerns have been ignored. ”

The chief says they initially were told the park would be eighty-two hundred hectares in size.

However the government says it is more than 11 thousand.
