MBC has awarded scholarships to seven Aboriginal northerners that are pursuing a career in journalism or media arts.

Phoebe Fosseneuve of Cumberland House and Belinda Nelson of the Ahtahkakoop First Nation are each receiving 15-hundred-dollar bursaries for this academic year. Both are enrolled in the Indian Communications Arts program at the First Nations University of Canada in Regina.

Three other northerners attending the INCA program in Regina are getting 1-thousand dollars each — Edmund “Chico” Halkett of La Ronge, Michael Bird of Ahtahkakoop and Michelle Dreaver of the Big River First Nation.

Also receiving 1-thousand dollars scholarships are Cassandra Opikokew of Meadow Lake and Marlene Girouard of La Ronge. Opikikew is enrolled in the pre-Journalism program at the University of Regina and Girouard is entering her first year of the Aboriginal Media Program at the First Nations Technical Institute in Ontario.
