Protesters slowed down traffic today on Hwy 2, just south of Prince Albert.

Bryan Lee, a Métis local president from Christopher Lake who took part in the demonstration, says he is concerned the Harper government’s new legislative changes in Bill C-45 will cause environmental damage.

Lee says people need to speak out against the federal government.

“Silence is interpreted as consent,” he says. “So we have decided to be silent no more, we will be idle no more.”

The Métis local president says he is also fearful the new government regulations will allow environmentally undesirable projects like nuclear-waste disposal sites to move ahead more easily.
