A ratification vote of a flooding settlement for the Sakimay First Nation has passed overwhelmingly.

Band members approved the $21-million deal by a vote count of 306 to 19.

Members are expected to receive their $1,000 per capita payment in August.

Chief Lynn Acoose says the next task is to ask the people what they want to do with the rest of the money.

The settlement was reached with Ottawa and the province over flooded traditional lands caused by the installation of a dam in the 1940s.
